Answers to most of the questions people
ask about web hosting
£60 for the first 12 months...yeah right?
Its true the only cost for the first twelve months hosting is £60. That
includes the initial set-up fee and the first years hosting. This is our standard policy,
simply to show you that your business is important. You'll be so impressed with
the service that after the 12 months you will be happy to pay the full cost
of £100 per year.
Can I pay the First Year Fee Monthly?
Unfortunately not, the first year fee is the minimum charge we can make to cover
initial set-up and first year hosting costs. To allow this to be
paid Monthly we would need to also charge a Set-Up fee of around £40. By
including this in the first year fee we can provide one of the best hosting
packages around at an unbelievably low initial cost to you. Our record of
renewals after the first year tells us that our customers are very happy
with our service.
What is your Spam or bulk e-mail policy?
Strict policies prohibit all bulk e-mail/Usenet
posting. Any client found to be engaged in this activity will have their
site removed from this network. PLEASE! Don't waste your money on bulk
e-mail scams, save your site and your money. Don't Send Spam! There are no
refunds for clients deliberately misusing our services.
Can I host an adult site?
Yes, as a public Internet provider Design-a-Might does not censor legal web content in
any way.
Use Bandwidth?
All accounts include 20GB transfer per month as standard, which is more
than enough for the majority of sites. Clients are charged a surcharge for use of more than
20GB transfer a
month (on that particular month). This is charged at a rate of £10 per GB sold in 1 GB
blocks.
(20GB represents approx 10000 visitors a day to an average site)
What if I go over my disk space?
All accounts include 1000MB of Disk Space, if you exceed this limit you are charged for the extra disk space at the end of the month. You
do have 10mb grace (e.g. if you use 10mb over your allowed space you will
not be charged). This is charged at a rate of £10 per 50MB a month
Second domains or domain pointers
Clients are charged a once-off £10 fee to set-up a second domain that
points to the exact same site as the first. If they want a separate site for
the domain they must sign up for a second account.
Sub domains?
Clients are charged a once-off £10 fee to set-up sub domains. They must
point to a directory on the clients site. A sub domain is for example http://members.yourdomain.com/
Email set-up?
You have access to a web-based control panel with which you set-up your mail accounts,
auto responders, email forwarding etc. You may set-up as
many POP3 accounts as you need. All POP3 accounts can be accessed via any
mail client and online via any web browser. Each account has a configurable
SPAM filter allowing you to delete all those annoying adverts automatically.
When can I start using the new email addresses?
Accounts should be ready for use as soon as you set them
up from the email manager. Please allow 1 hour after setting them up before alerting
support if there is a problem. Remember your domain must be
transferred and propagated before your email will work.
Unlimited email addresses...how much room can I use on the email server?
We allow you to use 15mb of room on the email server. Meaning, you can't
receive more than 15mb worth of email in a single mailbox without removing
it from the server. We believe this is more than reasonable, and we
recommend that you always delete your email from the server after you check
it. (E.g. do NOT have 'leave on server' checked in your email settings).
Referrals
All customers are given a referral code which allows them to earn £5 per
referral. If at sign up you order more than 1 account a £5 discount is
applied to the additional sites.
If you are a design house or something
similar and require a referral code, please apply via email to reseller@design-a-might.co.uk.
Do you allow SSI?
Yes, every possible service is kept open to clients. You need the flexibility and freedom to create. Far be it from us to
stand in your way.
Do you support ASP?
Yes, Windows hosting plans fully support Active Server Pages, ASP.NET, and ODBC
database connections for Access, DBase and FoxPro databases.
International domain name support?
Yes, the web hosting supports any domain name that you would like. You are
required to own or register a domain for each account.
How long does it take to set-up my new account?
New accounts are set up on the servers overnight to avoid disruption.
Therefore your account is set-up within 24 hours of payment being
authorised/cheque clearing.
How long does it take to get a domain working?
On average a new domain should be working in about 24hours, a domain
that is moving to Design-a-Might takes about 48 hours on average. In any case if
your domain is not working 48 hours after you have requested your domain to
be transferred from your domain registrar, email support@design-a-might.co.uk
with details and we will ensure everything is in place.
What hardware do you use?
The web servers currently: Processor Speed: 600mhz+ (all new servers
have 750mhz); RAM: 256mb; Drive: 2 x 20GB (disk to disk backing up twice
weekly).
What connection do you have?
Connections to multiple backbones are used to ensure that data
reaches the end-user in the fastest, most efficient manner possible. All servers
are housed in two major data centres in San Antonio, Texas and in
Boulder Colorado.
The data centres run the Border Gate Protocol (BGP4) for
best case routing. The entirely switched, Cisco powered network employs
Cisco 12000 GSR and 7500 class routers running HSRP (N+1 hot failover) to
ensure that data can be routed even in the event of a router failover. The
BGP4 protocol is a standard that allows for the evaluation of each packet of
information sent out from the Network. Each packet of information is
evaluated and sent over the fastest route possible. Because of our redundant
network architecture, packets may be sent via alternative routes even if
they are being delivered to the same end user. This also allows for packets
to be redirected via another route if network congestion on the public
internet becomes overwhelming.
The providers are paid to make sure that packets of
information are delivered to the end user's eyeballs. This offers
significant advantages over simply peering with the major backbones. Peering
agreements rarely include Service Level Agreements (SLAs) so no one is
accountable for lost packets at congested exchange points. Because there are
actually SLAs with all providers, we are able to guarantee that all
packets will leave our network at full speed.
The Network currently operates at less than 50% capacity
during peak hours. This allows for us to accommodate even the largest spikes
in traffic that are often associated with the most popular websites. We are
always adding network connectivity and new routes in an effort to make sure
content is delivered to you users as efficiently as possible. A low
bandwidth utilization also allows for the highest amount of uptime. We have
multiple DC3-OC12 connections to backbones.
